Overview

19 April, 2022

Ash oversees all aspects of logistics & compliance across the SUBZERO sites. Overseeing many aspects of the business including our BRC certification, health and safety compliance and fire safety.

Speaking with Ash she was kind enough to give us an insight to her role here at SUBZERO.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

No two days are ever the same, as a core member of the team I can often be pulled in multiple directions at any one time. It’s imperative that I prioritise and delegate where possible so that nobody gets left waiting for a response.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Not sitting at a desk all day, I get involved in many areas of the business, so I am often running between our Aylesford stores and the main office. Not only is this great health-wise but also puts me in great stead when it comes to compliance as I am familiar with everything that goes on within the company.

No two days are ever the same working in logistics and compliance, but to give you an insight Ash gave us an idea of what a typical Monday might look like.

9.00am

Every Monday the first task of the day is to check the fire system and to make sure all alarms are operating as expected. This is followed by a morning catch up with store staff and management, so I get a rough overview of what’s been happening during the drivers morning deliveries (drivers start between 3am and 4am).

10.00am

Back in the main office I check my emails from the weekend and respond to anything urgent.

11.00am

I have a catch up with the transport team to get updates on any weekend deliveries that arrived to us over-height, or smaller/larger than initially advised so I can reflect these changes on our internal systems.

12.00am

I log in to our in-house client ordering application and process any orders for the week and assign tasks to the team to ensure orders can be fulfilled.

2.00pm

Today we have a warehouse and management catch up meeting where we discuss all that has been happening in the past week, so that everyone is kept in the loop at all times. I take the minutes of the meeting so we can reference if needed and distribute to any members of staff not in attendance.

4.00pm

We have an inspection from our local council to ensure we are complying to food safety standards. As compliance officer it is my responsibility to oversee their visit and answer any questions they may have. This only lasts around half an hour as it’s focussed purely on our newest store that opened in January 2022.

5.00pm

Before I leave final checks are made to ensure everything that was meant to be completed that day was, and the stores are shut down and locked up. Occasionally there is a need to stay late to help our warehouse manager complete the driver paperwork for the following day.

Are there any other aspects of your job not mentioned that you regularly carry out or are responsible for?

Yes, where do I begin?

  • Fire marshal
  • First aider
  • Responsible for a compliance and paperwork relating to our BRC accreditation
  • Oversee staff health and safety training schedule
  • Scheduling site maintenance
  • Ensuring everyone has correct PPE and equipment to do their job safely
  • Assisting store warehouse manager when needed.
  • Updating drivers with any changes to tech and devices.

Working for SUBZERO definitely keeps me on my toes, my job covers a diverse range of responsibilities and crosses paths with all members of the SUBZERO team. At times it can get a little manic, but this is also what makes this job great as I am never just sat at my desk day in day out repeating the same tasks over and over…… oh and I get to work with the great team that forms SUBZERO.
