Ben works in our logistics team. He plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods, managing inventory, coordinating transportation, and liaising with suppliers and clients.
When did you start at SUBZERO and how has your role changed over the years?
I started in the transport office in 2018, since then my role has expanded from general transport office responsibilities to include stock control, and occasional warehouse duties.
Have you always worked in logistics (if not what were your previous roles)?
I have 6 years previous experience in logistics but my last roles prior to SUBZERO have been in customer service and sales.
What does the role of Transport Coordinator involve?
Primarily my role is to ensure the efficient movement of goods from supplier to customer. Coordinating transportation, scheduling and communication with various parties. I am responsible for ensuring smooth logistical operations within the delivery process and most importantly ensuring goods arrive on time and undamaged.
What are the main challenges you typically encounter in your role, and how do you overcome them?
There are too many to mention from staff absences and schedule interruptions to stock arriving to us short or even damaged. However it’s all just a typical day in the office and no challenge is ever too big to overcome, especially when you’ve had lots of practice.
What made you choose this career?
Career progression, having previously worked in logistics I knew how fast paced the industry can be. My other roles were complimentary in the skills needed for my current role as I had to be self disciplined and highly organised. This translated well into the role of Transport Coordinator as you’re always kept on your toes and have to retain a lot of information.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I run a Motorbike club, most of my free time goes on organising meets, events and ensuring the smooth running for our members. Outside of this you can find me meeting up with my friends or riding my motorcycle.
Finally, what did you want to do as a child?
Film set camera man. This seemed like an incredibly cool job that would possibly involve travelling around the world. Unfortunately the opportunity never arose.
